Artist's House

This stylish villa’s intimate romantic charm and quiet elegance is perfectly complemented by stunning views across the sparkling Ionian Sea. The sun terrace and iridescent waters of the private, infinity pool are both wonderful places in which to relax and simply admire the gorgeous panorama spreading out ahead.

Nestled high above the bays of Kalami, Kouloura and Aghios Stefanos, those sweeping vistas across to the dramatic Albanian mountains coalesce with the lush, green Corfiot hillsides tumbling down to the sea around the house.

Owned by Vangelis, a painter of Greek icons, the construction of The Artist’s House has been a true labour of love. His practised eye for detail and keen sense of the aesthetic has given rise to a unique property with a wealth of singular detail and various idiosyncratic touches.

Traditionally the colours blue and white are widely used in the decoration of many Greek buildings; the former often representing the sea (or the sky if the building has a religious purpose) and white reflecting the light and helping keep interiors cool.

The Artist’s House uses both colours to good effect with a traditional, blue domed front door, thick whitewashed walls in the open plan living area and matching soft furnishings.

A large pergola has also been thoughtfully installed to one side, providing both shade from the midday sun and a lovely place from which to admire the constantly alternating cobalt tints of sea and sky reflected in the pool water.

With boat hire and four tavernas, nearby Kalami Bay (3.5km) is a lovely, blue flagged beach of fine shingle and translucent waters ideal for swimming and snorkelling. The bustling harbour village of Kassiopi (7km) has a wide selection of shops and amenities and the indented coastline between here and Nissaki is blessed with a wealth of picturesque tiny coves and bays that reward discovery.
